To indicate the destination of a Cable car, bus, trolley or subway, such signs were mounted on the front of the car and were changed by the driver for each route.
 
This is recreated from an original Toronto streetcar/trolley roll sign depicting the destinations Training Car, Bathurst, Carlton, Dundas, Exhibition, King, Private, Queen, Earlscourt, Downtowner, Kingston Rd. St. Clair, Rogers, Long Branch.
