Years ago I purchased every affordable doll clothes pattern drafting software and CAD program I could find, hoping to make my job easier.
I finally called pattern drafting companies who told me time after time they design from scratch, grade their pattern only one size up or down, and then re-draft from scratch. Even though you should do the same thing for accuracy, TurboCAD Designer definitely has its plus side.
If you want to grade up or down a size, you can tell the program to maintain the seam width.
If you draw a pattern for a larger doll, the program will accurately push the pieces into other pages so they can be printed out and taped together.
Most machine embroidery software programs do a nice job, but I've found it's much easier to draw my design in TurboCAD Designer, save it out in the appropriate vector format, and import the drawing into the embroidery software. I have used other vector drawing programs, and there is a steep learning curve to all of them.
Because the company manual is hundreds of pages, and missing a few pointers for pattern drafting, I put together a 22 page manual specifically for this purpose.
It's the perfect program for ease of use.
These instructions will work with TurboCAD Designer 15 and up.
TurboCAD Designer can be used for any pattern drafting such as wood, signs, fashions, accessories, and the list goes on.
