Victorian carved Whitby Jet Mourning brooch gilt Daffodils accents 1890's
Antique early Victorian Whitby Jet square, carved mourning brooch with gold plated, gilded Daffodils accents circa 1860 - 1890s
Very unusual pin deeply carved on the center with the top corner cut straight, accented with three Daffodils, symbolizing rebirth and new beginnings, one in each corner.
The brooch measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" square, and is a tiny bit under 1/4" thick. The pin closure and the Daffodils are attached directly into the stone.
It is light weight in the hand and feels warm rather than cold like glass would. It is definitely Black in color and it leaves a faint brown mark when tested.
Condition: The are fleabites around the edges ( please see pictures ) but no cracks or any other damage.
