This work involves applying different color enamel made of crystal, ground color glass and precious metal between each baking of the copper piece, it may take from 8 to 20 baking sessions to complete the work, only then it may be signed by the master enameler.
Origin : France circa 1940's. Dimensions : Total length: 19" 11/16 - (50 cm). Central pendant = 2" x 2" 9/16 - (5,0 x 6,5 cm) - Side pendant = 1" 15/16 x 13/16 (4,9 x 2,1 cm).History : It is very hard not to be seduced by the allure and magic of the enamels of the Art Deco period, particularly by the art that came out of Limoges workshop artists: whether blooming flowers in their brazen natural state or detailed geometric patterns, it is always a pleasing experience. The hard, shiny surface of enameled metal, the intensity of its colors, and the technique of sculpting volumes and geometrical forms in the enamel itself – a technique for which Limoges Artists were famous – are all expressions of the vitality of Art Deco. Limoges has been the Centre of enameling for centuries, with workshops in existence since the end of the 12th century. During the early 20th century the Art Deco style was embraced by enamelers; among which you find artists like Camille Fauré, Robert Travelet, Marylou, Henri Buvaud, Maxime Monnerie and others...which produced some of the finest enameled art objects and jewelry of the period. The superb quality of their creations gave Limoges a reputation that has lasted for decades. Great effort was given to detail, composition and beauty. Almost forty years since the last workshop closed its doors for good. Yet today, Limoges enamels are more sought-after than ever. They are prized for their beauty, for the superb quality of their workmanship and their quintessential embodiment of the Art Deco esthetic. And at the heart of their unique vibrancy, their bold harmonies of color and form, their generous volumes and dancing rhythms, lies the essence of the Limoges Enamel style. For further information on Limoges enamel work please check :
