This book by Mary Martin who played Peter Pan as we know her, recalls highlights of her life on stage and off.
She best is noted throughout the world for her Needlepoint Designs and Patterns. She started her first piece of needlepoint during the making of South Pacific, a 5.5 x 7.5 foot rug which she finished two years later.
She planned and stitched designs and patterns for her family and many friends and has concluded the chief pleasure is to know to whom you are giving the piece when done.
Many photos in this book are from her New York apartment but she also made many pillows and rugs for her Brazil home also.
Many are unusual pictures for the integral part of the interior decoration is seldom shown for needlepoint as it logically should be. Many of the needlepoint designs here are planning for particuliar rooms.
She has written at the end of this book an illustrated How-To-Section especially for beginners for simple first efforts to elaborate projects. The secret is minor variations on one basic stitch, even for the most complicated designs.
I find this to be one beautiful book with photos of many fabulous designs she made when traveling by freighter, her favorite way to travel.
The collections are beautifully photographed by Sol Mednick for our viewing.
