This is a stunning and large vintage House of Hobe Brooch/Pin or Pendant with matching earrings. William Hobe began in 1927 and has been known for being one of the premier manufacturers of costume jewelry and many of his pieces simulate the look of fine jewelry from the past. The oval shaped brooch and the earrings are marked on the back with a cartouche that is stamped "Hobe” with the over the letter "o”. It is unusual to find all three pieces signed. This hallmark dates it between 1958 and 1983; this is most likely from the early 1960s.
The heraldic or medallion style brooch features an array of fall or earth tone colors that could be called topaz, root beer, brown, amber, citrine and a golden honey orange. The sparkling rhinestones are set in a beautiful burnished antiqued gold tone filigree openwork brooch. Even the back of the brooch is beautiful with a spider web design. It has a very 3 dimensional feel to it. The round faceted rhinestones are all prong set. In the center is a large oval stone that looks like smoky quartz. The dangle that hangs from the brooch is an identical match to the earrings in size and design. The brooch/pendant measures approximately 3 1/4 inches long and 1 3/4 inches wide. The earrings are 1 3/4 inches long and 3/4 of an inch wide. The set weighs 1.1 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 31.18 grams.
This is an extremely well made set of jewelry and is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The roll over clasp is a little loose, but works perfectly once it is attached to the fabric.
This is such a unique set to add to your collection of vintage jewelry. I have not seen another one like it. It is exquisite in detail and has such an intricate and varied design.
