This is a beautiful vintage clip on pair of Kenneth Jay Lane earrings. Lane began his jewelry business in 1963. The mark on these earrings is an earlier one; Kenneth Lane with the "Kenneth” above "Lane” with the copyright symbol in the center was only used in the 1960s and 1970s (according to Costume Jewelry 101, 2nd Edition). He still currently produces jewelry for QVC and others.

This pair of couture designer earrings is an Asian or Chinese coin inspired design. I have seen a necklace with these same coins, but I have not been able to find another pair of earrings, they appear to be quite rare. The top of each earring has an Asian letter or symbol with a jade green swirl glass bead attached. Below the bead is a dangling gold coin with a symbol on both sides of the coin, the symbol stands for Long Life in Chinese. The earrings measure just over 2 3/4 inches long and 1 1/4 inch wide (the diameter of the coin) The coins were obviously made in a mold form because the patterns are identical on each earring as are the little indentations in the coins.

They are in very good vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged pictures with only a little surface wear, which you don't see without magnification (see close up pictures for details). These would make a great addition to your collection of vintage Kenneth Jay Lane jewelry.
