Vintage PICQUOT WARE England Hot Water / COFFEE JUG J6 - HTF (hard to find)
The coffee pot stands approx. 7 1/4 inches tall x about 7 1/2 inches across from the tip of the spout to the end of the handle, the base measures approx. 3 1/2 inches in diameter and the top opening diameter is about 2 5/8 inches. Marked on the base is "PICQUOT WARE J6 Made in England".
There is normal everyday estate scuff wear from usage. There are no dents and the surface is still shiny. The material is a very strong alloy of aluminum and magnesium created in the 1940's to imitate polished silver. The handle is made from wood from the sycamore tree and the lid lifter wood is hornbeam. The design was created in 1949. This jug may date from the 1960's? Recently, Picquot reacquired the rights to the product and they are again being produced in England. Replacement (new) cost as per their website is 137.50 GBP or $260 USD. They offer a refurbishment service for vintage jugs at 60 GBP or $100. This jug is in very good condition. The handle is strong with no issues, and the interior simply needs regular / normal cleaning. The jug is cast in ONE PIECE to avoid any potential leakage problems. The jug holds about 1 Litre. The lid fits snuggly and smoothly. The material is very thick to hold on to heat. An incredible vintage item that is HTF (hard to find). The base is incised "Picquot Ware J6, Made in England". A great gift!
