Up for sale is a 45 rpm record by Pete Drake - "My Abilene" b/w "Y' All Come". This is a White Label Promo on the legendary Starday label. A White Label Promo (WLP), in case you don't know, is a special pressing of a record that is sent to Disc Jockeys, Record Industry employees, and salesmen to help promote a record's release. They are usually MUCH rarer than stock (standard) copies of records and are therefore very desirable among collectors. This record features the very pretty black-on-white design used with WLPs.

This is a fun little record by the great Pete Drake, king of the steel guitar. On this record he utilizes a talkbox which he used to combine the sounds of his steel guitar and the human voice. Drake himself explains: "You play the notes on the guitar and it goes through the amplifier. I have a driver system so that you disconnect the speakers and the sound goes through the driver into a plastic tube. You put the tube in the side of your mouth then form the words with your mouth as you play them. You don't actually say a word: The guitar is your vocal cords, and your mouth is the amplifier." This is the very rare follow-up to his big hit "Forever", and is therefore very desirable and much harder to get a copy of. This is the even rarer WLP issue, and in stunning condition as well (as you'll see further down). For many reasons this is quite simply the best copy of this record that you can pick up. It is a must for any country fan, steel guitar player, collector of the Starday label, or lover of special effects.

This single is in stunning NM- condition. It has no scratches that I can see or feel and plays wonderfully. I grade conservatively and hesitate to give records a perfect NM or Mint rating, so combining the visual grade and play grade I will grade this as NM-. Have a listen to the unaltered sound sample to hear what it sounds like. What you hear is what you get! The labels are in great condition as well and there is no writing or doodling on them.
