THIS ITEM: a side chair, accent chair, in the Sheraton style dating to the late 19th century, what is called a 'centennial'- that is a reproduction, usually of very high quality and true to the original designs, which dates from about 100 years after the original. This chair's style is copies from late18th and early 19th century classic early American designs, which experiences a resurgence during and in the years following the 100-year centennial celebration of the birth of our nation. This one is most unusual, as it in a stenciled and hand-painted fashion- the majority of centennial copies you find are more urban dark wood mahogany in fashion. This is much more of a New England rural style. The paint decoration is incredible! It's newly reupholstered, although I have no clue why they put this mod material on there- it's totally inappropriate. The form and proportions are exactly right, and it's even got the little paint wear, a few chips (not too much), and the occasional worm hole! It would only be better if were 100 years older!! ; ) A very, very good copy, with good age and excellent condition:

Great form! See how the front legs have the tapering pencil-point? The rear have a generous graceful arch and turn in toward center at the bottom. The seat has that shallow depth associated with early seating, but the height is modern standard. A couple of dealers I've shown it to insisted at first glance it was real period! I had to convince people it's a centennial. Even to be a cent copy is a great find for this kind of chair.

Some details of the great paint, the wear, and superb back Outstanding decorator piece!

This is from a pricy New York estate- their decorator picked it out and had it professionally upholstered. You can see from the union tag this was done a long time ago- looks 50s- yet the fabric is nearly unused. This was for display and was taken very very good care of in its last home.
Worm holes! You know it's old! I believe these may actually be natural, and not added. Tell-tale sign of originality and authenticity.

Great patina! Stencil lines to all sides, rungs, legs, etc. You can see the great hand-painting on the leg front and the stretcher underneath in this far-left shot. Just a great piece!
Great accent piece! So cheap!!
DIMENSIONS: 34 1/2" high at the back, 18 3/4" wide, 17 1/4" deep, seat depth 14" & height 19".
