Custom Cottage Bedrooms....

... from Kitsch-n-Kaboodle!!

THIS ITEM: cottage style standing floor mirror, often called a "cheval" mirror (or sometimes incorrectly "chevelle" mirror), in the 20s/30s elegant depression era cottage style, CUSTOMIZED TO YOUR SPECIFICATION in a classic heirloom chic-shabby enamel finish.

These fun stand-alone mirrors are super accent pieces that I offer to go with the heirloom-distressed chic shabby cottage custom-finished vintage bedroom suites.

I give you the opportunity to pick out the components you want to furnish your room, and tell me how you want it done!

This is one of the favorite styles to use for the cottage decor, and since it is widely available as a reproduction, I offer it for custom order to suit your decorating needs. You may buy just one piece for an accent, or build a whole bedroom set around this style. Rather than settling for what's already in a set that's already painted in a color you may not want, as you will find with other sellers, you can make your room your way. You pick out the pieces you like, and tell me how you want it to look, in any of a dozen different custom colors!

This listing is for the standing floor-model oval mirror on a pivot cheval stand with turned post and trestle-base, as shown. These mirrors are exceptionally rare if original, and so this is the one exception to the rule- it is brand new. All of my other furniture is authentic antique/vintage, but these are not. THESE MIRRORS ARE NOT OLD. I DO NOT MAKE THEM. THEY ARE IMPORTED REPRODUCTIONS from Asia. They are contemporary replicas, a reproduction of the real mirror that was made some 80 years ago. We have had the original model mirror that this one is copied from, and it is nearly identical to this replica. The old ones are just so hard to find it's a needle in the haystack scenario. So this is the only reproduction item I offer in my custom professional enamel finish in order to satisfy demand and offer a nice desirable accessory to accompany my custom vintage bedroom suites.

This is the only bedroom components we order brand-new from a wholesale furniture distributor, and it comes to us in plain wood, brand new, and I then apply the same lacquer finish as my other custom items. While you are ordering a newly made mass-produced piece of furniture, you are also ordering my personal refinishing services and my artistry.

The benefits to this are 1) easy to find, readily available at all times 2) extremely cheap, priced at a mere 1/8 the value of the real old one. And it really finishes off the look of the custom sets and makes the room complete, whether in the bedroom, bath, or even a hallway as an accent piece. They are painted on all sides for placement anywhere in the room, available in a wide array of colors, distressed or non-distressed. Here it is below in pale canary yellow, but if you scroll all the way down, each time someone orders I add new photos of the latest color choice. Go all the way to the bottom of the listing to see other color examples:

Price List and Options: DUE TO HIGH DEMAND, PRICES ARE FIRM: NO DISCOUNTS. THERE MAY BE A WAIT WHILE I COMPLETE WORK FOR OTHER CLIENTS BEFORE WORK ON YOUR ORDER BEGINS. SO ASK ABOUT LEAD TIME PRIOR TO ORDERING. NO RUSH ORDERS. NO TIME LIMITS ACCEPTED. SERVICES ARE GRANTED ON A FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVED BASIS.

As shown, standard: $275 in any standard solid color, distressed or non-distressed, with full-length oval mirror and matching 2-post trestle pivot-stand, on 4 legs. Overall DIMENSIONS: 59 1/4" high, 23" wide, 20" deep (at base).

Additional options: HARDWARE may be painted or non-painted. The brass turn-keys that the mirrors pivot on may be in antiqued brass, or in matching distressed (or non-distressed) paint. Add appliques, trim, alterations: +$50-75 each For the ultimate in custom alterations, you can get it as fancy as you want it! There are a couple places where this can be done- on the base, in the flat areas of the sides of the legs and the cross stretcher between them under the mirror frame; also at the top of the mirror is a great place to add a carved crest detail, for a delicate little crown carving to top off the look. E-mail your request prior to purchase so ensure I am able to oblige.

Standard factory-issue wood finish is $150, available in light or dark wood tones, either 'natural pine' or 'dark wild cherry/mahogany'.

ABOUT MY COTTAGE CRAFTSMANSHIP: This is not do-it-yourself paint, but rather a professional quality oil-based lacquer finish. Our competition slaps on the cheapest housepaint they can find and simply scuffs or actually scrapes off the edges of the wood, leaving it damaged and open to the elements, not to mention unrealistic and often sloppy.

My pieces are gently rubbed through to the old finish underneath on all surfaces, not just the corners, but flat surfaces as well, and completely sealed with multiple coats of old-fashioned varnish against the damaging effects of the atmosphere. The result is a smoother, softer surface that will remain durable for years to come, and a look and presence far more authentic than what my competition will offer you. It is water-repellent- liquid beads off the surface like an auto finish, stands up better to use and resists the dirt stains that latex paint often absorbs. It is butter-smooth, and working parts operate more easily than a latex finish.

No brushes or rollers are used, so the finish is smooth and thin yet durable, and perfectly evenly coated everywhere. And it leaves absolutely no clumsy overspray or dust inside the furniture, and no gritty spots.

It has my own secret satin-touch smooth feel, free of drips, sags, and brush-marks, in a soft heirloom color with the true look of a genuine antique paint job, worn around the edges in all the right places. I call it "worn to perfection" and I'm well-known for excellent quality craftsmanship. All pieces are labeled and signed by the craftsman, as a seal of integrity of craftsmanship.

I use authentic antique and vintage furniture, ranging in age from 60 to 125 years old, except for the standing mirrors which are new, and the finish is so authentic in look and feel they have been known to fool unsuspecting dealers. At shows and events, the one thing both customers and vendors overwhelmingly want to know is how this finish is achieved.

I have sold to happy customers online for over a decade, and my pieces have even been used in restaurants and bed&breakfasts around the country, and have been shown in newspapers and magazines.

Close attention is given to all carpentry repairs as well, which over the years has been a major problem buying from other vendors of painted furniture online. Many of these vendors simply don't do anything to fix problems already existing in the furniture. All of my custom finish orders automatically include Carpentry-Check! which is my process of thoroughly examining the wood itself, both structural and cosmetic, repairing as necessary, and even performing minor work to edges and joints that prevent future deterioration. I do a lot of the carpentry other vendors here online simply do not have the expertise for, including veneer repairs, carving replacements, size alterations, accessory installations, applique, dovetailing, and even repurposing and up-cycling new creations made out of old forlorn parts.

Whether for home use or commercial, you have my personal guarantee of a professional and high-quality end product. This is my full-time business, not just a hobby, and I am a professional. I offer already finished read-to-order pieces, but custom orders finished to specification are my specialty.

COLORS AND EFFECTS: Instead of offering only two or three colors, or everything in white, as you find with other dealers, I have a range of two dozen custom colors available, which includes varying shades.

I currently offer four shades of white, which range from the brightest true white, each shade increasing in amber antique tones, through creams, to a nearly beige/tan color. I am one of the only shabby artisans working with fine oil-based enamels to offer this gradation of color. I also offer a range of blues, reds, grays, greens, as well as silver overlay and parcel-gilding, pale pink, antiqued black, two-tone, and frosted finishes. Almost anything is possible.

The only thing I do not do is floral hand-painted decoration, but I do offer liason services with other artists to accomplish that look if needed.

You may order to your own liking, specifying more or less wear, "chippy" or not so chippy. In most cases, the client picks from 'light wear, moderate wear, heavy wear, or no wear' and I am left to use my artistic license in interpreting the level choice of distressing.

Colors are based on and inspired by actual paints and colors popularly used during historic periods, using our combined 30+ years of experience in the antiques and decorative arts. I only offer colors that seem to reinvent or bring a look current again, while at the same time retaining the authentic vintage flavor of that time period, so no matter what color you choice your piece will look fresh and new, yet still retro and classic.

You won't find a better or more realistic painted restoration anywhere! You may view or order a sample color pallet by e-mail, phone, or clicking this link:
