Called "Mrs. Siddons in the Tradgedy of the Grecian Daughter"
The original painting by W. Hamilton is in the Boca Raton Museum, FL
J Caldwall engraved this in 1789.However we do not know the actual publication date of this one, but is it quite oldand has a deep impression to the plate
We estimate it to be early 19th century
Estimated value $1900.
Nice, even tone throughout
We've searched several collections who specialize in Sarah Siddons or the engraver J Calldwell and have not found any of this one and certainly not any of this size
Sarah Siddons was the most famous actress/actor of her day and many famous artist such as Gainsborough, Reynold loved to paint her, including Wm Hamilton
 
 
Measures 39 1/4" x 31" framed-newish hardwood frame
Inside mat size is 25 1/4" x 19 3/8"-French mat
It has had some restoration-a tear at the top that is mended and 2 small fold marks at the very bottom.
 
It also says From the "Original Picture in the Collection of the R.... Hon?...(something) of the Earl of Gainsborough."
The last line is difficult to read, but some says"..... Siddons Ja.. Caldwall A...Court Great Windmill Street Piccadilly", clearly English
It is as framed, as found-I bought it 15 years ago.
