Good Dog Coffee Micro Roasters is a small family owned business. I grew up in Puerto Rico where coffee is one of the most important things of our culture and way of life. I spent most of my life in the coffee region of the island, between the town of Orcovis, Ciales and Jayuya. There, as a young adult, I worked in coffee farms and family-operated coffee roasting companies. I loved it! I was part wildlife biologist (my mayor at school) and part coffee-roaster/salesman (that's where my hart is!).
My career as a wildlife biologist took me to Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland. I can't grow coffee here but I certainly can roast it! So, that's how all it started back in 2003.Now, although we are still operating out of our garage (yes indeed!), we are the leading coffee roaster and local brand of custom-roasted specialty coffees from Puerto Rico, Colombia, Nicaragua, and Bolivia. We custom-roast our Shade Coffee, Organic Coffee, Fair trade Coffee to order, meaning that we will only roast your coffee only after you buy it. It doesn't get any fresher than that!

Why our name? Well, many people ask this question. It is simple. We love coffee and we love dogs! We strongly believe that dogs are a gift to us and have a vital role to play in our lives, both as companions and working members of society. Without them our lives would simply be incomplete.
Just like our K9 friends that protect us, cherish our presence and complete our lives, we must do the same for our environment. That's why we only sell 100% organic coffee because after all a good dog would want to protect the environment. We only buy shade grown coffees because they protect the fragile Rain Forest canopy that supports threatened bird and plant populations. And we only buy fairly traded coffees from small farm coops because we believe that sustainable development can only emerge from good working conditions and wages. All that means that we deliver only the finest coffee in the world.
On March 11, 2010 we received the Green America "Green Business Seal of Approval." Green America is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to harnessing the economic power of consumers, investors and businesses to promote social justice and environmental sustainability.
As a consumer, you can feel confident that business bearing this seal operate in ways that support workers, communities, and protect the environment. You can contact us at any time with your ideas or needs. We will do whatever we can to help!
Sincerely,
Leo Miranda
