I’m Bob Poitz and I am a retired golf course club professional. I live in a very nice quiet subdivision in Largo, Florida. I do not see any advantage to posting my picture whereas the front cover picture of my book says a lot about me.
As a kid in the 60’s, I played golf using Cary Middlecoff signature golf balls. I would search during rounds of golf for golf balls to use for future play. I was a member of a private golf course which only charged kids $.55 to play eighteen holes. I found a lot of signature golf balls and also vintage 1900-1940 unusual shaped dimple golf balls. That is what started me collecting.
I was lucky to get a job in the pro shop where I golfed. I turned professional and made golf my life. I went through the PGA Golf Professional Apprentice program and became a head golf professional at a thirty-six hole facility.
Over time, I decided to lease depressed, foreclosed and bankrupt golf courses. I did not stop looking for vintage and signature golf balls. Twenty-eight years later, my collection grew to fill one room in my house. I decided to write the book “Collecting Signature Golf Balls†to inform other golfers of my vast information on golf balls and PGA Tour players.
I started selling golf balls on eBay in 2002. Within a year, I designed the card/ball unit which holds a golf card inside a clear plastic holder which is attached to the back of a clear plastic golf ball cube. My sales increased rapidly.
Last year, I decided to sell 925 sterling silver bracelets with golf charms alternately displayed with colorful beads. Again, sales increased rapidly. I now make bracelets with charms and beads that match the following themes: Golf; House and Garden; Travel; Wine Tasting; Music; Cooking; Camping; Beach; and Country and Western. I plan to add additional theme bracelets by November. My store is named “The Golf and Jewelry Storeâ€. If you are interested in a particular bracelet theme, just send me a message.
