Artistic pursuits have always been a salvation for me. When younger, it was music and painting. But when disability made these impossible, I found myself floundering a bit - lost in reality with an overactive imagination!
So I put it to work doing things I can do from a hospital bed - writing, designing/crafting folk art goofy dolls and creating unique hair sticks for those of us with long hair. The Pulitzer has not been bestowed upon me, the Rag-Tag Critters been optioned by Mattel, nor have the hairsticks set the world on fire, but that was never the point behind the creation.
They did what they were charged to do: Saved me, giving me a fuller, interesting, productive life. The off-shoot being I'm also touching the lives of others with the scribbling and the artistic creations.
I think it's safe to say, there's not going to be hundreds of hair sticks in my booth. I never want to be in the position of having to "crank them out full speed ahead" - this pours ice water over my power to design. I know there are people who thrive on the deadline; I'm not one of them...
Door County, WI is "home." An amazing locale for artists of all kinds, so there's a lot of support for any and all artistic pursuits.
Thanks for stopping by. I do hope I've found a "home" here. It feels quite comfortable, so far!
