Beware - Stripe gives no SELLER protection even if item shows delivered

I had tracking show the item was delivered to front porch of buyer. Buyer “said” they never got it (lying to get it free?? porch pirates??). Anyway, Stripe sided with the word of the buyer (no physical proof, only their say so). I submitted USPS tracking showing it was shipped and delivered. They stated as a reason “proof of delivery doesn’t show proof of receipt”. Really? It always has before. Paypal accepts tracking as proof. So have to make sure the buyer is home to hand sign for deliveries now? Then Stripe charged me a $15 dispute fee on top of giving all money back to buyer. I have removed Stripe as a payment option in my booth. Just wanted other sellers to be aware. No seller protection from Stripe with USPS tracking.

One of many reasons I will only use Paypal. But the scammers are always gonna do what they can to get something for free. If they can’t do it thru the payment processor they will simply fight it thru their credit card company. Sad times for online sellers.

I opened a Stripe account last year and added it to Bonanza. Some customers don’t have a Paypal account, and want to pay directly on the site with a credit card. I tried Stripe to see if I could capture more sales. My experience is that utilization of Stripe is about 50-50 vs Paypal. In other words, about half of my sales are purchased through Stripe. In November 2024 I sold a high value item paid though Stripe. About 20 days later, the customer filed a charge back with his credit card company. That caused a large negative balance on Stripe, and I had to give the money back to Stripe. I followed their procedures and appealed the charge back. The item I sold was brand new and factory sealed. The reason the customer gave for filing the charge back was “unacceptable”. That is it, just one word and no explanation. There was no communication on Bonanza, and no indication of a problem. In my appeal I sent a copy of the Bonanza invoice, the tracking number showing that the item was delivered, a copy of my 30 day return policy, a description of the item and my explanation of what happened. It took about 90 days for a response from the customer’s credit card company to render their decision. I received an email from Stripe earlier this week stating that the credit card company ruled in my favor and they returned the money to my account. I actually won the charge back case. You are correct in that there is no seller protection on Stripe. You are on your own. However in my case, I believe it is bringing in more sales on Bonanza. There are fraudsters out there just like shoplifters in brick and motor stores. If you sell online you’re going to be a victim of fraud at some point. I’ve been ripped off several times. Unfortunately it is part of the cost of doing business. I just got got lucky this time.
