Paypal put a hold on two recent sales. paypal monitoring deliveries now?

I am not a new seller. I’ve been selling for several years using Paypal. Today I received two sales paid via Paypal and both were put on hold stating:

“We’ve placed the money on hold because we believe this transaction may involve a higher than usual risk. The money has been added to your on hold balance. It’ll be available once we can confirm that your customer has received the goods or services.”

I’ve been selling the same items and have had maybe 1 “hold” per year over the course of several years (mostly until Paypal could confirm the shipping address).

It’s just so strange that both transactions were put on hold today. I think I may cancel them and refund the money since they are both flagged as “higher risk”. And is Paypal now monitoring delivery since they state they won’t release my funds until delivery is confirmed (up to 21 days).

Has anyone else had this happen recently? I hope it’s not the “new norm” with Paypal.

Thanks for the replies.

I did call Paypal and spoke with a very friendly man but he really didn’t have a good explanation as to why 3 of my sales were put on hold. He said he could see my account has been in good standing since 2000 and they were most likely random holds to make sure I am doing everything correctly. (Really?? Don’t you think they would have known before now if I was not.) Anyway, he also mentioned it was odd 3 were flagged in such a short time span and I will get my money within 24 hours after tracking shows delivered.

I have had 2 more sales since then and they were not put on hold so I’m going to take him at his word that these were just random. But still a rather unnerving occurrence for a 20 year Paypal user.

I’m sure it has been unnerving. Makes me worried for myself. Don’t need a hold on sale right away when I come back.

Have you called PP to ask about this? Based on your record, it shouldn’t be YOU that is the risk. Maybe the addresses or customers are sketchy and they don’t want false chargebacks. I’d call and talk to them, but yes, cancel if you worry about it.

It does not sound like they are saying the sale itself is risky per se.

I don’t know, has it been a little bit since you had a sale….maybe PayPal is getting a little more careful this way, though they should not since u r a long time seller and user of their service. I’m just trying to think of something that makes the slightest bit of sense.

Please let us know what PP says if you happen to contact them.
