Whorled Mountain Mint

(Pycnanthemum verticillatum)

Whorled Mountain Mint is native to the Mid-Atlantic region . In its native habitat I have found it to be quite well behaved compared to other mints that take over. This one is more clump forming, and has an awesome leaf fragrance. As with most of this genus, pollinators flock to them for their abundant nectar. this is a MUST Hasve for any polinator garden.  It grows in medium to dry soils and is drought tolerant. deer do not seem to like it.  the polants listed below are the ones I see growing in community with it. The plants comes in a 3.5 inch pot, water thoroughly before planting and regularly until established.

Description: Ht to 3ft, small  white to lavender flowers packed with nectar, leaved whorled on square stem

Culture: Sunto part shade, mesic to dry soil, blooms July-Aug, Zones 4-8

Companion Plants: Woodland Sunflower, Showy Aster, Coreopsis, Butterflyweed, Little Bluestem, Indian Grass, Maryland Meadow Beauty.

Wildlife benefit: Many different pollinators visit for late season nectar.

Eco-type: South Jersey

Sustainable grower

All of my plants are grown using earth friendly techniques, from seed collection to watering with rainwater. Pots are 100% recycled, some are re-used containers, others are made from recycled plastics. Plants are fed with PLANT-TONE by Espoma, an organic fertilizer and/or worm castings. I grow plants that can replace those lost to development in order to help sustain wildlife that depend on them. You can be assured that you are not getting plants from the wild, which is unethical and further contributes to habitat loss.

***Check my other listings. I am adding more wildlife-friendly native perennials everyday***
