This is a historical memorabilia commemorating the 4-14-72 MGM GRAND HOTEL,GROUNDBREAKING event held in  Las Vegas, Nevada in the shape of a golden shovel.

This is an ice crusher, scooper and bottle opener. NEVER BEEN USED. The $107 million mega-resort was named for a 1932 MGM Film. 26 stories high, 2,084 rooms, and a 1,200-seat showroom. It opened July 5th 1973. It was the largest hotel in the world. Also was the site of Las Vegas' biggest disaster in November 1980 when a fire, ignited by an electrical problem, raged through the casino and upper floors of the MGM. In 1986, it was sold to BALLY MANUFACTURING CORP. It was renamed BALLY'S. The present day MGM GRAND located in the corner of Tropicana and Flamingo) was opened in 1993.
