Antique EAPG Northwood "Leaf & Beads" Goofus Glass 9" Opalescent Double Crimped Low Compote Footed Bowl

Goofus glass is pressed glass which was decorated with unfired enamel paint in the early 20th century,

manufactured by several prominent glass companies and was relatively cheap. Originally given as premiums at carnivals, Goofus Glass was made from about 1890 to 1920 or so. Because it was cheaply made and cold painted, the paint chips easily. Thus, the  popular name of this glass with unavoidable imperfections became Goofus Glass. It was the first carnival glass, preceding the iridized product known today as carnival glass.

This particular bowl was made by the Northwood Glass Company. The H. Northwood Company operated from 1902 until 1924 out of Wheeling, WV. This pattern dates back to 1906. It is marked with the N inside of a circle (see last pic).

It features opalescent, crimped edge with gold painted leaves, with a tones of red underneath in the bowls center. For further accents there are vertical rows of "beads" spaced along the crimped edges.

VERY GOOD CONDITION ~ No nicks, chips, cracks, flea bites, or repairs. Some flaking/wear, as to be expected on this type of cold painted pieces of this age. Only noiticeable if held to the light. Looks wonderful on display!

It measures approx. 9" wide at the widest point x 3 1/8" tall x 3 3/4" diameter base.
