I have for sale three genuine, hallmarked solid silver pre-war Men's ARP badges.

The Air Raid Precautions solid silver badges were produced by the Royal Mint and are all stamped JC for Sir John Herbert McCutchard Graig, who was the deputy master of the Royal Mint

One is hallmarked for 1936 and is among the first batch of ARP badges to be ordered by the British Government as despite the Munich agreement, we were not just sat on our hands doing nothing and comes in a later post-war box and is priced at £26 and the other two are hallmarked for 1938 and come without a box are priced at £22 each.

Each ARP badge is one and a half inches x one inch or 39 mm x 26 mm and each weigh 9 grams

From February 1940,no ARP badges were produced in hallmarked silver, but were produced from a mixture of 60% copper,20%nickel and 20%zinc.

Although some one million ARP badges were produced in hallmarked Stirling Silver, in the 83 years since they were issued, many must have been destroyed, been lost or gone missing.

If these things could talk, what tales they could tell.
