Melothria scabra

Mexican Sour Gherkin

75 Days

This vine produces a very small fruit that tastes like a cucumber with slight bit of lemon – like sourness. Known as “little watermelon” in its native region of Mexico and Central America. The plant has been domesticated for centuries and can be used for salads and pickling. The uniqueness of the plant makes it worth growing. Drought resistant and self – pollinating. Tiny yellow flowers peek out of small leafed, green foliage followed by the desired 1-2 inch fruits. Perfect for small or cottage gardens.
