Rare 1700's French Double Bit Skeleton Key
Key Measures approx. 10" Long
Rare key found in 1970's near the grottoes " des Echelles"
(Saint-Christophe is a commune in the Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France)
These grottoes were once used as a hideout from Louis Mandrin (1725-1755) - famous Captain General of France smugglers, and this is in the grotto "des Echelles" that he escaped from the king's soldiers.
Key has extensive pitting
