The front is just slightly smaller than the back and the back has a flange. It looks like it was pressed into something larger. Extensive searches have provided no results on what that might have been.

I reached out to the awards board about this item. They say it is an Edward R. Murrow Award but they do not know to whom it was awarded, for what or when.
