This variety was bred by Dr. Peter Falloon from Aspara Pacific in New Zealand. This new purple variety is high performing, producing higher yields than Purple Passion as well as many of the green varieties. It is unique in the way it holds a more dominant deep purple color through the season and is very tender with a sweet flavor, distinctive from green varieties. As Pacific Purple produces especially large-sized spears, we recommend planting the crowns 8 inches apart rather than at the usual 12 inch spacing. This practice will produce more normal-sized diameter spears. We highly recommend this variety.
