artist's note on the back of the plate says: "Like other Northern
owls, the Great Grey Owl hunts during the daytime, usually from a low
perch. One of the most elusive birds in the world, the Great Grey Owl
was discovered by Europeans in America before they realized the species
also resides in Europe."
