True Greek Oregano seeds. This strain is the true "wild oregano" found originally in Greece. With a stronger, more intense flavor than the regular commercially grown oregano (Origanum vulgaris) which is a culinary compromise because it is very uniform and easy to farm. This strains (Origanum vulgaris hirtum) flavor is very, very intense and very aromatic. It kinda grows at it's own pace. One branch might mature, while the others are a little behind or ahead. One of the most important herbs of Italian, Greek and Mexican cooking. The flavor stands up to bold flavors like tomatoes, onion, garlic and beef. A bushy perennial with deep purple-brown stems and 1 1/2" broadly ovate leaves that often have a red flush when mature. Branched clusters of small white flowers appear all summer. At maturity, this perennial reaches 18 inches tall and wide. Oregano lives about 5 years as a useful culinary plant, longer as an ornamental. It gradually becomes woody, a very pretty effect but one that reduces the flavor and texture of the leaves. When they reach this stage, let them go to flowers and pull up. Easily grown from seed. Pretty much carefree after established. Light steady water and a little organic fertilizer if needed. Does very well in containers indoors or out. A sunny south window will do. 300+Seeds per order. Thank You!
