Causes of a bad drive belt can include cracks or splits that develop from extended use over years of manual clothes drying. Improper tension may also contribute to early wear.

Symptoms of a bad drive belt include:

The dryer drum fails to turn or rotates slowly
A squealing belt slipping on the pulleys
