PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS (DETAILED)

When to Plant Coleus Blumei Seeds

Coleus seeds can be sown indoors 6-8 weeks before the final frost date and transplanted outdoors after the frost has passed.

Where to Plant Coleus Blumei Seeds

Select a location with Partial to Full Shade, with rich, well-draining soil, and good protection from the wind.

How to Plant Coleus Blumei Seeds

Coleus blumei seeds require light to germinate, so be careful not to cover them when planting. Learn more about germination light requirements here.

Start indoors in flats or containers. Spread seeds shallowly across the surface and lightly cover with fine seed starting soil. Cover container with plastic and place in a warm location with bright, indirect light. Keep the soil moist between 65-85° F - Coleus seeds can benefit from bottom heat also. Once seedlings emerge, remove the plastic covering. Transplant outdoors once all threat of frost has passed. Place in holes large enough to accommodate the ball of roots. Give plants 12 inches of spacing when installing.

How to Care for Coleus Blumei

Coleus likes fertile soil, so use organic fertilizer regularly. Until they're established, Coleus will need some protection from intense, direct sunlight, as well as strong winds. After the fall frost, when the Coleus dies back, remove the plants from the planting area.
