SIGN OF A BAD WHEEL BEARING
- Anti-lock braking system (ABS) does not function properly resulting in damaged tone ring of the wheel bearing which is increased or decreased when a vehicle changes direction.
- Bearing gets loose and starts making "play" in it.
- Steering wheel feels uncontrollable due to in-proper alignment of the wheel bearing.
Steps to replace wheel bearing hub assembly
- 1. Ensure vehicle is on a level, save surface
- 2. Loosen all lug nuts and axle nuts if applicable
- 3. Disassemble the brakes by removing caliper and bracket bolts
- 4. Remove rotor, abs sensor (if applicable) and hub
- 5. Install new wheel bearing hub
- 6. Reinstall abs sensor (if applicable), rotor, caliper bracket and axle nut
- 7. Place wheel back onto the hub using lug nuts
