ANTIQUE WIND-UP PHONOGRAPH
(Circa 1870-1900’s)
This antique phonograph is a piece of history. It has a Russian Style Emblem on it - so assume it was crafted in Europe somewhere. It is a good specimen for anyone collecting international historical paraphernalia in cultural and ancient music.
However--with its practical design and craftsmanship, it is sure to be a treasured addition to any collection. It measures 16 inches by 12 inches by 7 inches. This phonograph is obviously a rare find that most likely came on the boat with the very people who emigrated to Canada or the USA back in the early 1900’s when the governments were looking for railroad workers. It likely was manufactured in the late 1800’s or possibly the very early 1900’s(MFG Time period is estimated-Not Guaranteed) and would have cost a month salary or more to purchase back then. It is one that will be enjoyed by collectors and even music lovers alike.
It has all the components with including the crank, the head and many extra needles are in the built in tray. However--most of the needles are rusty from sitting. It still winds up with the original crank and the turntable turns as it should. However, I do not have any 78 records to play on it. Back then they did not use a speaker as no electricity. This historic piece could easily be restored by someone as the turntable still has the original felt fabric on it.
Whether you are a seasoned collector or just starting out, this antique phonograph is a must-have for anyone who appreciates the history of music. I do not feel you will be disappointed with the condition considered its age.
