English  THOMAS DENTON Cottage Longcase Clock c. 1760

77" TALL X 18.75" WIDE X 10" DEEP

For a Longcase clock of 264 years of age, The case is fine with a locking lower door. The movement works by the weight of one heavy weight!!!

The date of the clock is estimated @1755 as Mr Denton passed in 1765 and the small opening in the face for a date to be placed is square as that was changed to round in 1760!!!

Not much is known about Thomas Denton. Here is what I have found!

Thomas Denton was a working clock smith  / maker in Abington / Abingdon, England,  from 1754  till 1765 when he passed away!!!

Jackson Oxford Journal, 1755 - 1835, has an entry which relates to a lost watch and refers to Mr Thomas Denton Watchmaker in Abingdon. The report is dated October 21, 1758.
