TWO BOOKS BY LUCY FITCH PERKINS Both Illustrated by The Author THE ESKIMO TWINS 1914 First (School) Edition Houghton Mifflin Company Boston ~ New York ~ Chicago ~ San Francisco Hardcover, 200 pages AND THE BELGIAN TWINS 1917 First (School) Edition Houghton Mifflin Company Boston ~ New York ~ Chicago ~ San Francisco Hardcover, 196 pages Lucy Fitch Perkins's Twins Series was written to teach early 20th century elementary school students a bit of geography (and later history) as well as keep the children interested and entertained. The Twins books had grade levels; Eskimo Twins was for 2nd Grade while Belgian Twins was for 6th Grade. These books were republished a number of times over the years, but it was Houghton Mifflin that published the First Edition. I do not know whether there was another First Edition published by them outside of the School Edition, but these have an added page+ of Suggestions to the Teacher, something other editions may be lacking. All of the illustrations in the book are by the author, and there are numerous b&w drawings by her throughout. It is obvious that these two copies have experienced some "child wear", but overall, they're not in bad condition considering how tough children can be on books. The cover condition of The Belgian Twins is the more worn of the two, but both books are holding together rather well. Complete description below.
