During the Korean War, United States Marine Corps scout marksmen with special capabilities and equipment. They trained for two distinct missions, which remains the missions of Marine scout marksmen today. The 1st mission was to deliver precise, long range fire on selected targets from concealed positions. The second mission was to act as scouts on the battlefield, collecting and reporting information. Scout marksmen needed excellent long-range marksmanship skills. They also had to be able to camouflage themselves, hiding and blending in or deceiving the enemy so as to be undetectable.
