This is a gorgeous and dramatic hand wrought breastplate 4-part waterfall necklace and earring set made by Casa Maya Studio in Mexico. Maya Mexico jewelry is easily recognizable and was made in Mexico from the 1940s to the 1960s.  This is most likely from the 1950s and information on this jewelry appears in “Maya Mexico Jewelry” by Sandy Hargrove. The necklace and earrings are both hallmarked and stamped on the back “Maya Mexico”. The hallmark on the necklace is a circular pattern with Maya and Mexico separated by an arc. The hallmark on the earrings have Maya over the word Mexico (see photos).

The tiered necklace and earrings are made of hammered copper and brass sections with banded or striated accent beads that look like green onyx or malachite, but may be art glass. The border edges of the panels are hammered and there are curved brass wires scrollwork on the panels that add dimension to the necklace. The hand forged chain has copper and brass links in figure-8 shapes and has a fish hook and eye closure so you can adjust the length.

The chain measures approximately 17 inches long from end to end and that includes the top of the pendant in the center of the chain.  The waterfall pendant has 4 linked medallions or panels with 4 dangling sections at the bottom of the last panel. The pendant portion of the necklace measures approximately 2 ¾ inches wide at the widest point and 6 ¼  inches long including the four dangle pendants. The earrings measure approximately 2 ½  inches long including the dangle and have adjustable screw back fittings. The lower tapered dangles on the earrings are brass with copper teardrop centers.

The set is in excellent vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. None of the beads are chipped or cracked.  I have not polished the necklace or earrings as they have a wonderful patina that only comes with age. It is rare to find a matching set in such wonderful condition.

This would be a wonderful addition to any collection of vintage Mexican jewelry. It is a true runway statement necklace that is sure to attract attention.
