ABOUT CONDITION OF THE ITEM FOR SALE
Our elves are highly trained to inspect for damage of any type. If there are cracks, chips, or any other flaw, we DOCUMENT IT in photos AND/OR text. Additionally, there is a final inspection just prior to shipment, to ensure that no damage happened between the warehouse and the packing/shipping workbench. If we find any anomalies, you will receive an email just prior to shipment. Otherwise, you can assume that if we make NO mention of cracks, chips, flaws or other damage, then there is none, and there is no need to ask an additional question about it.
There may be dirt or soil on the item in the photo if the item is used. We do our best to clean up used items prior to shipment. Used items often show wear, and you can expect a rudimentary cleaning of your item, but we do not promise that used items will be spotless, or to an extreme level of restoration prior to shipment.
ABOUT HANDLING and SHIPPING TIME

We charge a $3.00 handling fee when necessary, which we have found to cover most of our packages. Occasionally when we have an oversized package that requires more handling , additional bubble wrap and protective materials, or when we have to purchase oversized boxes and packaging for something that could take up to an hour to prepare for safe shipping, we may charge a higher handling fee. For most of those exceptional packages we don't charge over $5.00. We do our very best to keep our costs reasonable. We know there are people who might try to take advantage of you – but please be assured that we work hard every day to ship the safest, fastest and least expensive way possible. When we receive a request to reduce our shipping fees, this is requesting that we absorb the actual expenses somewhere else. Much of the proceeds from the sale of our items is returned to the owners of the items, after that, we pay our student and underemployed working staff and the cost of doing business – including and PayPal fees (which can add up to 15 to 21% of the total amount you paid including the shipping and does not include the separate monthly fees charges sellers for the privilege of selling on their site). For lower priced items, the margins remaining are equally very small.
We publish a 5 day handling time for shipping our packages – we maintain a very large shipping queue, and work on a first in first out system. We often have 50 to 60 packages and buyers waiting for their packages ahead of yours. We prepare each item for shipping carefully, and won't rush to get the job done if it means sacrificing the safe and secure shipment of your, or anyone's, item. If you have a need for us to rush your shipment, please let us know – otherwise your item will be in the queue as we normally handle all packages.
ABOUT SHIPPING CHARGES
We do not make up the shipping charges. We use the shipping calculator tool. This tool accepts our entries for the package – the weight and package dimensions, the carrier options – and looks at your zip code to calculate the shipping prices. The price you see on the screen includes our handling fee as part of that rate. If the shipping charge looked high, it is because that is what the carrier is charging. Shipping prices have continued to rise, just as the cost of fuel has risen dramatically. We have no control over the accuracy of the shipping calculator tool itself – we use the tool because insists it is a best practice to do so. If you believe it may be inaccurate, please do communicate your dissatisfaction about the tool with directly, as we have no control in that area.
You have the power to help support businesses, and you also have the power to have an business suspended, based on your feedback. We'd prefer to break through the secrecy and work things out with you directly – the old fashioned way – the way our grandparents conducted business in their day.
We kindly ask that if you find something not to your satisfaction, that you give us the opportunity to correct it PRIOR to leaving us a harmful feedback, which could then lead to pay reductions or eliminations for our students and underemployed workers, OR even to suspensions of accounts. We don't want anyone to be unhappy, so please tell us if something goes wrong! We are human too! (those of us who aren't elves....)
About feedback, and specifically about the FIVE STAR DSR system, says on their website: “Sellers need to minimize the occurrence of 1 and 2 ratings in all categories.
• Meet the detailed seller rating standards:
• If you've had more than 400 transactions during the previous 3 months, you need to have no more than 0.50% 1s and 2s in any category during the past 3 months.
• If you've had fewer than 400 transactions during the previous 3 months, but more than 400 transactions during the previous 12 months, you need to have no more than 0.50% of 1 and 2 ratings in any category in the last 12 months.
• If you've had fewer than 400 transactions in the last 12 months, you can have 2 or fewer instances of 1 and 2 ratings.
If your rating falls below the minimum standards you can face limits on your selling activity or suspension.”
Our business is our sole income – it is what several families in our community depend upon. We do this work in support of several non-profit organizations, and all our item owners and constituents depend upon us for the work we do here.
Kindly consider that a lower 1 or 2 rating represents a very high percentage when we do not receive positive feedback from all our happy buyers. Most of our customers are so busy, they forget to leave feedback, and we don't mind that at all – as long as everyone is happy. We get busy too! If you find you absolutely must have feedback left, please write and let us know. rules do NOT REQUIRE that anyone actually leave feedback.

We accept recycled packing materials from our community – peanuts, styrofoam, boxes, newspaper, bubble wrap – of any shape and size – for use in our business – to help keep these items out of landfills. We hope you will recycle the materials at your end. Check freecycle to give these materials away – there are people who will pick them up at your door. We reach out to businesses in our community to recycle their packing items . We collect shredded paper from our local print shops also. Whenever possible, we shop local, and encourage others to do the same. We use much of the earth friendly materials we receive to do natural composting and organic gardening right here at ElvenRidge to foster and teach sustainability.
