This is a stunning oversized Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Daffodil Brooch or Pin made by the William B. Kerr Company. They were a prominent silversmith company that manufactured jewelry, vanity items and flatware and were renowned for their Art Nouveau Jewelry. They were formed in Newark, New Jersey in the late 1800s and they were bought out by Gorman in 1927. The back of the brooch is signed with Kerr’s hallmark, which is a hammer and three “X” marks and STERLING. There is also the design number 1569 on a cartouche on the back.

The brooches designed by Kerr are large, yet fairly lightweight because they were made with a wax interior and then melted out through the holes on the back of the brooch. The details are incredible and the brooch is a wearable piece of artwork. The brooch weighs .90 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 25.51 grams. It measures approximately 3 ½ inches by 2 ¼ inches wide.

The beautiful, rare and hard to find brooch is in great condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It has a lovely patina and I have not polished it. I will leave that up to you if so desired. It has a hinged pin stem and a “C” style clasp that works fine. The pin stem does have a slight bend in it (see picture with arrow), but some other pins of his that I have seen have a similar bend in them, so it may or may not be the way it was made. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would look gorgeous pinned to a sweater, jacket lapel, or scarf. It is sure to be noticed and will be a great conversation starter. It is a wonderful example of Art Nouveau jewelry.
