Vintage Fisher Price Play Family #991 3 Car Circus Train Complete/VG++-EXC! (P) (More photos below)

"The circus is coming, the circus is coming!"  Recall those days of yore by inspecting this COMPLETE VINTAGE Fisher Price Play Family #991 3 Car Circus Train play set in VG++-EXC condition!!!! Manufactured between 1979-86, this CLASSIC play set is the later 3 car version and comes with its original pull string. This particular addition omitted the flat, gondola car and the giraffe.

Composing this DELIGHTFUL play set are:

1 engine with original pull string that heartily "toots" when the train whistle is pressed and silver imprinted headlight (VG++-EXC--the ONLY "imperfections" I can detect are:  On the left side train litho, three intermittent hairline vertical creases, six small bubbles, one faint light stain to the right of "Fisher Price", some minor edge wear on the top of the litho, and one, 1/16" scratch on the "A" in "Train"; I believe the stain will come off during the cleaning process; the right hand litho likewise has one, thin, vertical crease, one, 1 1/2" L x 1/8" W horizontal bubble, four tiny bubbles, and one, small tear (e.g. 1/8" L x 1/8" W ) at the lower left hand corner of the litho; both lithos are intact and full-bodied in color. The engine's plastic surfaces are incredibly VIBRANT and SHINY. Other than some surface scratches, I do not discern any breaks, cracks, "dings,"discolorations, or chips etc. on any of the plastic surfaces. The wheels display little, if "any road wear." The connecting hitch is free of any teeth marks);

1 HTF green cage car door that converts to a ramp to let the animals depart (NEAR MINT--all of the bars are intact with no cracks or stress fractures being detected; the lithos on this car are clean, completely intact, and brightly colored. They're among the BEST lithos I've ever been priviledged to see on one of these cage cars. The only "flaws" I can discern are a few, isolated tiny bubbles. To see these, one has to hold the cage car up within 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light.  I doubt if they even show in my photos. Like the engine, the wheels display minimal, if any, "road wear;" the connectors at each end of the car are perfect);

1 HTF red caboose (NEAR MINT---both lithos are intact with robust coloration; although they exhibit some barely detectible hairline vertical creases, they are free of any edge wear, rubs, tears, or bubbles; you literally have to hold this piece up within 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light to find these crease; the wheels are free of any "road wear;" the connectors are free of any "nibbles" or chews; this is one of the finest cabooses I've been privileged to see in over 15 years of buying and selling these);

1 HTF blue elephant (VG+-VG++--bold facial features; ears and tail totally intact and free of chews; joints are a little loose but still hold a pose; glossy coat with minimal darkening on the elephant's trunk due to age; one, 1/4"L x 1/8" W melt mark on top of the elephant's head along with one possible tooth mark towards the tip of the elephant's trunk; the latter is shallow in nature; you really have to be looking for it to spot it);

1 HTF lion with brown mane and circle on belly (NEAR MINT-MINT-- tail intact and free of chews; all joints are tight and firm; bold and distinct facial features;

1 VHTF monkey with tail (NEAR MINT-- complete tail with NO CHEWS; light fading of right nostril;

1 HTF golden brown bear (EXC++-NEAR MINT---NO CHEWS ANYWHERE; left arm is floppy and left leg is a tad loose; other joints are firm and tight; facial features and belly circle are sublime);

1 VHTF short, PLASTIC blue engineer w/angled cap (NEAR MINT--one, pin-head size rub on left eye; barely perceptible);

1 HTF short, PLASTIC red bodied clown w/yellow pointed hat (MINTY MINT); and

1 HTF short, PLASTIC ringmaster with mustache and top hat (MINT).

In general, this circus train and all of its accessories warrants an EXC--EXC+ rating.  I've lowered my rating to VG++-EXC solely because of the melt mark on the elephant's head and the bubbles and creases on the train engine's lithos.  The latter definitely do not detract from the engine's overall appearance or function. I've tried to be as thorough and honest about this set as I can be.  I'd rather be "nit-picky" than have someone disappointed in what they were purchasing.  Many of my former customers have attested that their purchases have far surpassed my descriptions.  

THIS set would make a fabulous gift for some lucky child or an avid Fisher Price Collector!

I WILL BE THOROUGHLY Q-TIP CLEANING THIS PLAY SET AND ALL OF ITS ACCESSORIES PRIOR TO SENDING IT TO ITS NEW OWNER. I SPEND A MINIMUM OF 1 - 1 1/2 HOURS CLEANING EACH AND EVERY VINTAGE PLAY SET THAT I SELL. MY SETS ARE IMMACULATE!

NOTE: THIS VINTAGE FISHER PRICE PLAY SET IS NOT PART OF THE RECENT FISHER PRICE RECALL FOR TOYS MANUFACTURED IN CHINA. THIS VINTAGE TOY WAS PRODUCED IN THE GOOD OLD U.S.A.

DUE TO SOME SMALL PARTS, THIS PLAY SET SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS OF AGE OR TO THOSE CHILDREN WHO ARE STILL MOUTHING THEIR TOYS. ADULT SUPERVISION IS SUGGESTED UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES.

I primarily utilize Fed Ex Home Delivery for items exceeding 5 lbs. in weight, measuring greater than 12 inches in any dimension, or traveling longer distances. I’ve been finding Fed Ex has been running @33% cheaper than the USPS  and UPS Ground. FYI, another benefit of using either Fed Ex or UPS is that their quote includes up to $100 worth of FREE insurance. Additional amounts of insurance may be purchased for a nominal fee (that is much less than the USPS). Fed Ex also provides automated tracking updates re: your parcel’s whereabouts directly to your personal e-mail account.

In order to ship Fed Ex (or UPS for that matter), I MUST have a residential or work place address, NOT a P.O. Box number, as well as a home or cell phone. Otherwise, they will not accept the shipping paperwork or transport your item.


Packages traveling to Alaska or Hawaii will be shipped Parcel Post via the USPS. Insurance and delivery confirmation are required.

I’m more than willing to combine multiple purchases into one box whenever it is safe to do so to decrease your shipping costs. PLEASE combine your purchases in your shopping cart so they will all be listed on ONE INVOICE. If you pay for these items separately, I get charged multiple transaction fees by PayPal plus the likelihood is greatly increased that you will get over-charged on your shipping. Of course, I will refund you any amount over $1.00 that you've overpaid on shipping. However, it's easier on both of us if you wait until I can send you the correct amount.
