This 126 page hardcover book is both a memento of school days gone by, and a great homeschool study aid for the elementary school speller. This 3rd Edition of The Canadian Speller, by Frank M. Quance, was published by W J Gage & Co. Limited of Toronto, in 1950. It is a great resource for today's kids and teachers, in a world where spelling is undervalued.

Included is a note To The Teacher, and a plan for 'What to Do Each Day', in order to learn the words, their meanings, and correct spelling. Each chapter has a short story, followed by a list of new words, and exercises on learning about the words. Every 6th chapter is a Review, followed by Supplementary Words, for those who wish to learn more difficult vocabulary. At the end is a Key to Pronunciation, followed by a Spelling Dictionary of all words learned.

There is shelf wear to the covers, mainly to the top and bottom of spine, and the corners are bumped with fraying of the brown cloth cover. The binding is tight, and all pages are tight, but there are a few small tears in page edges. One page is torn upwards, near the spin, for about 2 1/2 inches. There are pencil scribbles inside, and a few small stains. There are no stamps or markings to designate this as a former school book.

I also have the Grade 5 speller if you're interested, and both could be shipped together for not much more cost.
