Item description for Vintage Metropolitan Museum of Art MMA Rabbit Bunny Figural Brooch Pin

This is an adorable little sitting rabbit brooch or pin from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It was adapted from an original design by The House of Robin France, 19^th Century. It was reproduced in cooperation with the Musee’ des Arts decoratifs, Paris.

It is lightly antiqued 24-karat gold electroplate, accented by vibrant ruby red rhinestones in the rabbit’s collar around the neck. It has a red enamel eye. It is very well made and dimensional and has incredible detail and is very realistic. It has four feet, two ears, detailed fur and muscles. It measures approximately 1 ½ inches tall and just over 1 inch wide and is ½ inches thick including the pin fastener. It is hollow in the back and is stamped on the back “MMA” for Metropolitan Museum of Art and “MaD” for the Musee’ des Arts decoratifs. It comes with the original descriptive paperwork insert explaining the design origin and giving the details regarding the House of Robin. The paperwork is crumpled up, but you can still read it easily.

It is in excellent vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There are no missing stones and they are all nice and shiny. The locking “C” clasp works perfectly. The metalwork has no signs of wear or corrosion. It is quite a sturdy piece and is able to stand on its own so you would be able to have it as a decorative piece when you aren’t wearing it.
