"For the book, the photographs have been chosen by Bailey himself, mainly on aesthetic grounds, though historical considerations have provided another criterion. The subject reflects his interest at the time, with many portraits and fashion photographs, as well as some personal pictures and a number of East London street scenes."

From the book: "Bailey always used good models, but Jean Shrimpton seemed to him to have the potential to epitomize completely the sort of new look he was interested in, young but sophisticated, elegant but sexy. It was a look a younger generation of Vogue's readership could identify with."

"David Bailey's name is synonymous with the Swinging Sixities, when fashion photography became big business, and the person behind the camera had the ability to become as famous as the celebrities who posed for them. And Bailey was the most famous of them all--the East-End boy who became best friends with the Beatles and the Stones, the lover of actress Catherine Deneuve and model Jean Shrimpton, while chronicling them all in a series of unmistakable, unforgettable shots ... The result is a treasure-trove of images from one of the most exciting periods in the 20th century, when the cult of youth, fame and glamour was worshiped and--in this case--most beautifully recorded.
