Vintage Turtle Tortoise Brooch Pin Sterling Silver JewelArt Figural

This is an adorable little Sterling Silver Turtle. It was made by JewelArt, this company began in East Providence Rhode Island in 1946. It is marked on the back in an oval cartouche “Sterling by JewelArt” and also has the word “Sterling” on the back, (It is not to be confused with Jewelart from the 1970s out of California). The finely detailed turtle’s shell is made of free form open work shapes. He is a land turtle, not a sea turtle. You can see the details of his feet including his toes. It measures approximately 1 ½ inches from nose to tail and 1 inch wide across. It weighs .20 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 5.67 grams.

This brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The turtle has a slightly darkened patina with the high points being brighter. This shows off the details beautifully. I have not polished it as many people prefer the patina that comes with age. You can certainly polish it to a brighter finish with a soft cloth, should you choose to do so. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be a perfect addition to anyone’s collection of figural jewelry. Great for a turtle lover!
