Very nice vintage Karagheusian "The Gulistan" wool Area Rug / Carpet. It is in excellent condition for the carpet of this age. It was professionally cleaned in 98 and has been wrapped up in a protective cover and never used since then. I had to cut the protective wrapping and unrolled the carpet to take these pictures. This giant area rug measures 150"x107" or approx 12'x9'. It is great for family room, dining room, or study room. Again, in excellent original condition. The only imperfections I can see are some fading in one small section and some fringes turned a bit yellowish or missing (typical of an old rug)

A bit History on the maker: The A. & M. of Karagheusian company opened its door selling imported oriental rugs in New York City in 1899, founded by two brothers. Their rug design draftsman and designers worked both at Tiffany and Karagheusian. These designers combined their lavish and exotic designs to produce the unparalleled quality products of both companies.

In 1904, the brothers bought a factory in Freehold, New Jersey and traveled to Kidderminster, England, the capital of British carpet manufacturing, to bring sixty Brussels and Wilton power looms -- plus the weavers to run them. The company moved from importing to manufacturing.

The company introduced the “Gulistan DeLuxe” rug collection in 1924. “Gulistan” (the title of a thirteenth century Persian poem) means “garden of roses” in Persian. By 1928 the company becomes nationally known for this flagship product - "the Gulistan carpet".
