This is a large Snake brooch that measures approximately 3 inches wide, 2 inches tall and 1 inch deep. It was made by the Lilien Czech Jewelry Company in the Czech Republic. They have been in business since 2006 and specialize in handmade costume jewelry, so although this may look like a vintage piece of jewelry, it is fairly new and contemporary. It has gorgeous amber colored crystal rhinestones on the body and is surrounded on the outside with black rhinestones as an outline. The snake has two bright red rhinestones for the eyes and the tongue is clear white rhinestones.  The head is a large amber tear drop shaped crystal stone. All of the rhinestones are prong set. It is very three dimensional and has fantastic depth and detail.

All of the jewelry that Lilien produces comes in a raw, un-plated form, which means that there is no plating on the back. The pewter joints are visible, as is the finish of other components. This is done on purpose to give the jewelry a vintage or historic feel. The back is the various colors that reflect Lilien Czech’s style and make the backs appear to be worn. This item was recently purchased and returned because the buyer thought the back was damaged and re-soldered, which is understandable if you are not familar with her pieces. I have added an additional composite photo that shows close ups of the backs of several other Lilien brooches for sale on the Internet so you can see how the pins are soldered to the brooches. 

This is in excellent used condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs, it was rarely worn. All the stones are intact and have a nice shine to them. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would certainly be a conversation starter and perfect for any snake lover. If you know someone who enjoys the company of a snake, this would be a truly unique gift. Think of Christmas and what a fun stocking stuffer this would make. It will look stunning with a black dress, a great Halloween accessory, or a fun brooch to wear on a jacket lapel, a hat, or a scarf.
