TERROR & NIGHTMARE

by Marcus Van Heller

Collectors Publications, First American Printings, 1967

Overall Condition: Very Good

The author of these two novels has been called "a master of erotic realism [and] may justly be ranked along with Jean Genet and the other vanguard writers of the modern French school".  Yet the books are decidedly readable.  TERROR paints "a memorable picture of 'underground' life in Paris during the Algerian uprising of 1954.  NIGHTMARE tells of an African physician (with shades of Jack the Ripper), set against the backdrop of race relations in the U.K. in the '50s.  Like his other books, the erotic passages are explicit (thus, I ask that the buyer be at least 18 years of age).  Van Heller's real name is said to have been John Stevenson.  Each of the books was first published in Paris, and this is the first American printing.  TERROR has two short edge tears, modest short creases, some front cover glue residue, some page corner creases  and a bit of other light wear; NIGHTMARE has an edge bump and edge staining at the back, a couple of small page corner creases and a bit of other light exterior wear; both have tanned pages.
