This gold toned metal brooch was designed by Chaim Gross (1904 – 1991), a renowned sculptor and artist, whose work can be found in museums throughout the United States. He was the founder of the Sculptor’s Guild. This piece of jewelry is part of a series that was commissioned by the State of Israel to be presented as a thank you to people who purchased the Israeli Bonds to help support the State of Israel in the 1960s and 1970s. The other artists who contributed to this series were Salvador Dali and Jacques Lipchitz.

The pin features two doves holding an olive branch perched on stylized letters in Hebrew that spell the word Shalom (Peace). There are three ruby red rhinestones, two as accents for the eyes and one larger oval stone in the center of the word. Some of the pins were designed without stones, this one has them. It measures approximately 3 inches wide and 2 ¼ inches tall. It can be worn as a brooch or as a pendant as you can see in the photographs. It is signed on the back “CHAIM GROSS”. The chain in the photo IS NOT INCLUDED.

This brooch/pendant is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. I have not polished it; I will leave any polishing up to you. It has a loop on the back to use it as a pendant. It has a rollover safety clasp on the back, it is a little stiff on the rollover, but it does close securely. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect to wear as a brooch or a pendant. It could even be used as part of a shadow box and framed for the wall. It is a lovely piece of wearable art. Great for anyone who collects Judaica and peace related jewelry.
