The strap adjusted to the shortest length allows the bag when hung on the shoulder to hit at the bust line at th the top of the bag with the bottom of the bag hitting at the waist.  The strap adjusted to the longest length allows the bag when hung on the shoulder to hit below the bust at the top of the bag with the bottom of the bag hitting at the hip.
