DOC HOPKINS AND KARL AND HARTY OF
THE CUMBERLAND RIDGERUNNERS
M.M. Cole Publishing Co., 1936
Presumed First Publication
Condition: Very Good+ to Near Fine

Doc Hopkins, Karl Davis and Harty Taylor were Kentucky musicians who got together after WWI to form a string band called the Krazy Kats. Then, in 1930, they got on radio station WLS in Chicago and became the "now infamous" Cumberland Ridgerunners. During the next few years, other members came and went, including Red Foley. This magazine-style songbook contains more than 50 of their "mountain ballads and home songs"; it was published in 1936, while they were still performing together. This copy is particularly well preserved, its main flaw being a light bend on the upper corner at the spine. Seldom found in this condition.
