This is a cute little articulated owl pendant that represents in Greek Mythology the owl that accompanies Athena the virgin goddess of wisdom. Minerva is her name in Roman Mythology. The bird is often referred to as the “Owl of Athena” or the Owl of Minerva”.  The Owl is marked on the back with what appears to be 0.74 and 900 for the silver content (see photo), it has not been tested. The owl is in two sections with the head and body attached with rings. This little owl measures approximately 1 ¾ inches tall and ¾ of an inch wide. It weighs .20 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 5.67 grams. It is most likely from Europe and I would guess was made in Greece.

The pendant is in great pre-owned condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There is a slight defect on the silver ring around the left eye, it is not damage, just the way it was created and you can’t see it without magnification. I have not polished it, depending on your own taste, I will leave any polishing up to you; you can keep it in the same condition with its original patina or polish it. I like the darker patina that is has. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for any bird lover or a collector of Owls. It will also be a nice addition for anyone who enjoys ancient history and Roman and Greek mythology.
