ACHILLES ABSENT by Marie Monchen

First Edition

Condition: Very Good- in Poor to Fair dj

Though set in the 20th century, some might compare this 582-page novel to GONE WITH THE WIND.  The only novel of its female author, its narrative covers a number of years, war plays a significant part in the story and it concerns a woman with many men in her life.  But unlike GWTW, this one may not have gone beyond its first edition and has faded into obscurity,  (It does seem to have had popularity in France, where both hardback and paperback editions were published.)  This is a sturdy copy, though the bottom of the first part of the book has moisture staining, (some curling of the pages and red dye staining) and the front free end paper is missing. The jacket has pieces off the top and is heavily torn (the worst has been taped) and red-dye stained, though the flaps are ok and the dj is all holding together.
